The Clinic for Boundaries Studies
About the Clinic

The Clinic for Boundaries Studies is the only organisation in the UK  working around all aspects of professional boundaries and the prevention of boundary violations.

The Clinic runs preventative, recovery and remedial services.

With almost 20 years of specialist expertise (first as POPAN and then Witness) the clinic is now a community interest company, which employs some of the most experienced staff in the country.
The Clinic is therefore well placed to act as consultant to organisations who want to improve their approach to prevention.

The Clinic's specialist support services are aimed at the public while the training and educational work is aimed at practitioners, including those who are involved in complaints processes.

The Clinic works in a wide range of professional areas, including health, social care, religious settings, psychological therapies and education.

Support and Recovery

An important aspect of the Clinic's work is to provide support services for people who feel they have been
harmed by a professional in a position of trust. As a social enterprise we are able to offer the following services at
reduced rates to those on low incomes.

Consultation
Confidential telephone support and advice sessions to explore any aspect of possible professional abuse. We also  encourage this service to be used to `check out' whether the behavior of a professional is justified.

Specialist therapy
A service to help deal with the effects of professional abuse.

Witness support
To help with professional conduct processes or other forms of raising concerns.

A 3 day course
For people who have been affected by professional abuse this is an opportunity to increase knowledge and to develop further skills about how to move forward.
Training and Education

We run a range of courses about  boundaries and preventing boundary transgressions.  We develop bespoke courses for organisations and open sessions for all sectors.

Early next year we plan to run two intensive specialist courses for practitioners who are interested in enhancing their knowledge  of professional boundaries. They are Boundary Theory and Practice and Counselling Victims of Professional Abuse.  This development will also benefit the public by providing access to a register of practitioners with particular expertise in ethics and professional boundaries.

We are also developing intensive professional development courses for professionals who are subject to investigation in relation to boundary transgressions.
Resources

The Clinic has access to a wide range of resources for people who wish to extend their knowledge and understanding about professional boundaries.

Staff and faculty publish in professional journals and information is added to the website periodically.

On the Resources page there is a list of key reading material and we will be adding to this store over the coming months.

Our Code of Ethics is also available to download here.
